The Recent Shooting in California

“As we conclude the celebration of Passover and commemorate our journey from slavery to freedom, we are deeply saddened by the shooting at the Chabad of Poway. We learn from the story of Passover that freedom carries with it the responsibility of building a caring, loving community. Today, one man tried to shatter the freedom and community that we celebrate through an act of terror and anti-Semitism.

We stand together in solidarity and strength as we mourn the loss of the woman who was murdered. We pray for a refuah shleimah (complete and speedy recovery) for those who were injured.

We thank law enforcement for protecting our community and the medical professionals who are treating the wounded.

Hate, violence, and intolerance are antithetical to our beliefs. We strongly condemn anti-Semitism and are dedicated to building a strong and vibrant Jewish community.

We are deeply saddened that these evil actions continue to ripple throughout our community and our world just 6 months to the day after the deadly shooting that killed 11 people at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh.

We understand many students will be affected by this attack.
